CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Even through a pandemic, love is in the air.
According to the Hamilton County Clerk, they received over 7 hundred online marriage license applications in one day.
William (Bill) Knowles, the Hamilton County Clerk says, “We’ve established a new procedure as of today. For our marriage license, couples must go on countyclerkanytime.com and pull up the marriage license app, complete it submit it to us and then call us.”
Knowles says that this change has to happen because of all the foot traffic they have been relieving lately.
The downtown Hamilton County Clerk’s office is currently closed. Unless, you make an appointment ahead of time for your marriage license. This means that everyone else must go to the Bonny Oaks location and those clerks are practicing social distancing. So, there’s only about half of their staff. Those two factors added together equals extensive delays.
Marriage license aren’t the only thing people are trying to get.
Car tags, vehicle registration and tag renewals are all taking place at the office.
Michael Underwood was trying to get a new tag today. He said, “I mean, it’s just an hour and a half wait to get my new tags for my truck so, it’s kind of an inconvenience to have to wait all day. I mean, I was going to go back to work so you know, it’s cutting into my pocket.”
There is a simple way to avoid waiting an hour to get your car tags renewed.
Knowles says, ” We do recommend that they go online to countyclerkanytime.com and use their tag receipt and put the information in and as we get those orders daily, we put them in the mail back to the customers.”
If you do go to the office, you have to check in, wait in your car for a text message and then get your temperature taken before you enter.
