Motorcyclist dead after serious crash on Hixson Pike
UPDATE: On Sunday afternoon, close family members and friends gathered at a memorial created in honor of their loved one.
Friend Michael Wright reflected on the emotional loss.
“We are here at the memorial of our best friend and fallen friend, Dathan Thomas. You don’t get to say goodbye at the end of the day. So being able to do this, being able to let out your relief, saying goodbye, honestly, I feel helps a lot of people.”
No other injuries were reported in the crash.
The Chattanooga Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and asks anyone with information to call 423-698-2525.
UPDATE: The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) responded to a two-vehicle crash that occurred around 1:25 p.m., the 3900 block of Hixson Pike on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
According to CPD, the investigation shows that the Honda Accord was turning left from a parking lot to travel north on Hixson Pike when a motorcyclist struck it.
The 20-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No other injuries were reported.

HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) – A motorcyclist is fighting for his life this evening following a serious crash on Hixson Pike.
Chattanooga Police say that person was involved in a crash near the Walmart Neighborhood Market and Big Lots between a motorcycle and car.
Hixson Pike was closed for several hours this afternoon.
This is the second serious crash in Hixson this week involving a motorcycle.
A crash on Tuesday on Highway 153 killed a 19-year-old motorcyclist.
