Dayton Boat Dock is hosting the Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour this week with the top anglers across the country competing for the grand prize of one hundred thousand dollars.
“This is the highest professional level of bass fishing there is. These guys are the top notch anglers in the country, they spend night and day, weekends and hours upon hours for preparation. So, it’s a very skillful art to catching fish.”
Aaron Beshears, Tournament Director for Major League Fishing says their tournament is really based on conservation.
“Obviously our catch way release format helps with the fish. But, some of the other things that can hurt a fish is dropping it on the carpet, if the angler just tosses it overboard once they release it. SO, we have two minute penalties for that,” continues Beshears.
Eighty of the nation’s top anglers participated in the event on Lake Chickamauga including Kevin VanDam. VanDam has earned nearly seven million in career winnings, the most of anyone in their history.
“Right now, Jordan Lee is in the lead with 36 lbs followed by, everybody’s heard of Kevin VanDam, Kevin is a close second with 31lbs. The anglers have an on-board boat official that calls penalties and weighs the fish and also gives the angler the score. SO, there going to know exactly how they’re doing during the competition,” says Beshears.
Only eight will make it to the championship round. That round will be held Wednesday and conclude the tour.
All eighty professional contestants will receive prize money for competing but only one will win the top prize.
