As we approach the 90’s this weekend, many people will be out and about on the lakes, rivers, and pools. Here are some tips to keep your skin looking healthy this summer.
May is Skin Cancer Awareness month. Using sunscreen in your daily routine will not only prevent against skin cancer, but also wrinkles.
“The sun is public enemy #1 for aging, it will age you faster than anything else,” says Jessica West, a licensed Esthetician and Owner of Skin + Brow Room who encourages a habit of wearing face sunscreen every day.
“You need sunscreen regardless of how light or dark your skin is and to reapply if you’re out and about because it’s not going to continue working regardless of how high the SPF is,” continues West. West says to look for sunscreen with zinc in it when you head to the store.
“If you invest in a good care home regimen, or invest in sunscreen, it’s going to save you a lot in the long run because you start getting into laser treatments for sun damage or micro needling. Those are very costly,” says West. West says the latest skin care trend may be for blue-light preventatives as many people work from home.
Nowadays, you can skip the tanning beds and laying out in the sun for hours to get a tan.
Alexis Grass, a Spray Tan Technician at Healthy Glow says they’ve seen a large increase in customers switching to spray tans and self tanner.
“You can accomplish any color that you’re looking to accomplish….The sun is super harsh on your skin. It can cause skin cancer, sun spots, wrinkles, whereas our solution actually has vitamins A, C, and E in it. And, it also has anti aging properties and is not going to harm your skin at all,” says Grass.
These sunless tanning methods last around 1-2 weeks and are a great alternative to get that healthy glow.
