HIXSON, Tennessee (WDEF)- First responders searched for the largest bass to kick off National EMS week.
Over 34 boats went out for the annual bass fishing tournament at Chester Frost Park.
After last year’s event was canceled, Assistant Chief Billy Burnette with Hamilton County EMS says it’s great to be back out on the lake and although the turnout isn’t as high as pre-pandemic he is still pleased with the number of contestants.
Since 2011, the event has funded fourteen college students pursuing a career in Emergency Medical Services and donated over $3,700 to the Chattanooga Forgotten Child Fund.
“I’ve been vested with the forgotten child fund for a long time. This community always comes together and helps with the forgotten child fund and even now more than ever we need more EMS stands and we need more EMS healthcare professionals. So to be able to help both causes it’s just a win-win for everybody,” said Burnette.
Michael James and Chris Hickman won at a total weight of 16.79 lbs and biggest fish at 6.31 lbs.
