(gomocs.com) SPARTANBURG, S.C. — After leading the team in multiple offensive categories, Chattanooga Mocs softball graduate outfielder Hayleigh Weissenbach has been named an All-Southern Conference First Team selection, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
In addition to Weissenbach, junior infielder Emily Coltharp was named to the All-Southern Conference Second Team while freshman infielder Courtney Ball earned a spot on the All-Freshman squad. The Mocs have now had a first team honoree the last four seasons (no awards in 2020) and a member on the all-rookie team the last six.
“We’re very proud of the way these three played this season and they are very well-deserving of the recognition,” said head coach Frank Reed.
“It’s always great to see our student-athletes earn awards and accolades from the league and we’re extremely excited about the future here in Chattanooga.”
Weissenbach led the team this season in nearly offensive category including batting average (.330), RBI (22), total bases (52), slugging (.536) and OBP (.421). In Southern Conference games only, Weissenbach batted a team-best .348 (16-for-46) with three doubles, a pair of homers and 13 RBI while reaching base at a .474 clip.
The 2021 SoCon Preseason Player of the Year, Coltharp finished second on the team with a .318 (34-for-107) batting average during the regular season while scoring a team-high 20 runs and stealing five bases. For her career, Coltharp currently ranks eighth all-time in batting average (.352) and fourth in OBP (.436).
Ball was named the SoCon’s Player of the Month in March earlier this season after a blistering start to her collegiate career at the plate. The Macon, Ga., native finished the regular season third on the team in batting average (.298) while recording six doubles, a homer and 11 RBI, in addition to ranking second in all of NCAA DI with 13 sacrifice hits.
Chattanooga (13-23, 8-8 SoCon) finished third in the SoCon regular season standings and advances to this week’s tournament held at top-seeded UNCG. The Mocs open against No. 2 Western Carolina on Thursday, May 13, at 3 p.m. ET.
