CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee- A special treat for Star Wars fans as the Tivoli Theatre shows the original trilogy to celebrate May the fourth.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the Tivoli Theatre is currently showing movies on the weekend.
But for May the fourth, commonly referred to as Star Wars day, they also chose to show the first three movies at 1, 4, and 7 pm.
“We wanted to do this for years. We’ve been so busy in non-pandemic times that it honestly just hasn’t worked in our schedule. So when we sell this year we will be able to both reopen safely and do it in a way that’s healthy for the community but also bring Star Wars on 4 of May it was a no-brainer,” said Wilkinson.
“The fact that I can show up here in the beautiful lights right here on the river and I could be Darth Vader and walk around and get handshakes and high-fives from people it’s honestly amazing,” said Darth Vader/Corban Richard.
“Got the Covid vaccine and feel good coming back out. First time back at the Tivoli in Gee.. for almost 2 years,” said Brad Warden.
Star Wars fans of all ages showed up to see the Star Wars movies Joe Barbeauld and his grandson Nick are watching all three today at the theater.
“Well I mean there’s nothing like seeing it on the big screen and with your grandson,” said Joe Barbeauld.
Nick loves Star Wars but he’s isn’t entirely sure why.
“I actually don’t know,” said Nick.
They weren’t the only family who came to see Star Wars.
“Brought him here and he’s never seen Star Wars on the big screen. I have not seen it since 1978 and it’s just something we wanted to share together,” said Warden.
And some kids even got to miss school to see the movies.
“It was the first time this has ever happened and I would much prefer watching Star Wars on a big screen and being in social studies class.”
May the fourth be with you.
Wilkinson said this will likely be the most profitable day from the showing movies since the pandemic started.
