CFC Facing Atlanta United as Apart of Preseason Schedule

(CFC release) Chattanooga, TN – As the Chattanooga FC first team begins training this week, the club is pleased to announce four preseason matches to test the players before the 2021 NISA spring tournament begins. The early schedule features MLS’ Atlanta United, USL Championship teams Birmingham Legion and Louisville City, as well as amateur club KSA from Atlanta.

“We are very pleased with the four preseason matches that we’ve been able to secure” said Peter Fuller, Head Coach, Chattanooga FC. “We have a strong amateur team in KSA who is coming in to play us. We have two USL championship teams and an MLS club who have reached out to us to play preseason games and we are extremely grateful! The games and the variety of teams should prepare us well as we enter the spring portion of the NISA schedule.”

Atlanta United first played Chattanooga FC in 2017, its first match ever. After a few short years, both teams will face each other again, this time in Atlanta. The “5 stripes” have amassed a large organic following in the Southeast, and have experienced much success on the field, including the MLS Cup in 2018, and both the US Open Cup and Campeones Cup in 2019.

Louisville City boasted a 11-3-2 (W-L-D) record last season, as well as a deep playoff run to the conference finals. Birmingham went 7-5-4 in 2020 and made it to the conference playoff quarterfinals.

The first three matches, Birmingham Legion on March 13th, KSA on March 20th, and Atlanta United on March 24th will be played behind closed doors, with no access available for fans or media. The final preseason match, Louisville City on April 3rd, will be open to the public.

March 20- vs. KSA, Finley Stadium (CLOSED DOOR)

Rick Nyman grew up in Anniston, Alabama and attended the University of Alabama. His television career started at WJSU-TV in Anniston where he had the opportunity to cover SEC football with Alabama and Auburn. Anniston is just 20 minutes from the Talladega Speedway, so NASCAR was a big part of his sports coverage. Due to this he was able to interview Davey Allison, Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, and several other top-name NASCAR drivers. Rick's next television job was in Savannah, Georgia, where he covered basketball player Kwame Brown (now with the Washington Wizards), who later became the first ever high school player selected as the top pick in the NBA draft. He covered the PGA Tour's annual swing thru Hilton Head and also had the opportunity of covering the Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl appearance in 1999 in Miami. Rick especially enjoys all the atmosphere, tradition and drama of college football. He also likes profiling sports personalities and learning what drives them both on and off the field. If he's not covering sports, he's either watching Seinfield or David Letterman, playing golf, reading, or working out. What he enjoys about Chattanooga is the passion people have for sports. The mountainous region of Chattanooga reminds him of his hometown of Anniston, which also has big, beautiful trees and plenty of hills. You can contact Rick at
