CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Bottles of disinfectant got loaded up into vehicles Tuesday afternoon, ready to make their way to people who need it.
“We actually walked through the store and saw every cleaning chemical wiped off the shelf. We had the opportunity to get this. So we did,” Chattanooga Home Inspector Owner Malcolm Godwin said.
The “this” he is referring to is Auto-Chlor DC 33.
It’s an EPA registered disinfectant known to be effective in destroying COVID-19.
“This is a chemical that is usually used for hospitals and restaurants for disinfecting their hard surface areas,” Godwin said.
Chattanooga Home Inspector along with Basement & Crawl Space Solutions bought enough to make 7,000 gallons with the intention of giving bottles of the disinfectant away to people, completely free.
“We don’t want any donations for any reason. It’s just to help our community and serve them the best way that we can right now,” Basement & Crawl Space Solutions Owner and Operator Ernest Joseph Higgins said.
So far, crews have made deliveries to many homeowners, some who are elderly who can’t make it out.
“We’re trying to focus on, you know, medical buildings or people that are just in dire need and can’t get out,” Higgins said.
“We’ve got eight inspectors out delivering right now, delivering the product and they are instructed to just knock, leave the product on the front steps and there’s directions for use with the product so they know how to use it,” Basement & Crawl Space Solutions Director of Sales Neil Scott said.
Higgins said that they just wanted to come together and help people.
So, they’ll continue give it away, until they’re out.
“We got a 50 gallon drum of it and at that dilution rate. It’s like 7,400 gallons that we can make and we’re gonna go until it’s all gone,” Higgins said.
