Here are the details of Hamilton County’s first public Covid-19 testing

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Hamilton County Health Department is opening a COVID-19 testing site for the public.

You will still need a referral from a medical provider to get tested.

The Health Department wants providers to screen patients to make sure they are symptomatic before referring them for testing.

Once they get the referrals, they will contact you to set up an appointment for the test.

They begin taking referrals Wednesday at 8 AM.

The actual testing begins Friday, April 3rd at the Emissions Testing Center at 7460 Bonnyshire Drive.

You will need to bring a photo ID and wear a mask if you have one.

You should drive yourself if possible or one other person if you need assistance.

They will perform the test as a drive-through so you won’t need to get out of the vehicle.

The tests will be sent to the Hamilton County lab at Baylor School.

The results will be sent to the referring physician within 24 hours.  But if you are referred for a test, you should isolate from that point until you get the results, whichever way it goes.

Health Department Administrator Becky Barnes says “This development represents a positive step so that infected people in the community can be identified early and aggressive contact tracing can begin immediately.”

The tests are free.
