CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – After years of planning and construction, the National Medal of Honor Heritage Center is now set for its grand opening Saturday.
U.S. Express transported three statues from Brooklyn, recognizing heroes who share commonalities with both Tennessee and Georgia.
Sgt. Alvin York, Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, and Private Carson will all be showcased permanently in their own section within the facility.
The Heritage Center also tells the story of brave heroes who made a difference all over the world.
Curator Molly Randolph tells us “I think this Heritage Center is for everyone. We’re telling a story that is national and international because a lot of these actions took place outside of our country. The recipients who received their medals showcased amazing character traits that I think could really inform anyone’s life.”
In May, the Center will create an exhibit honoring Dr. Mary Edwards all by herself. She is the only woman to be a medal of honor recipient.
