DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – A Whitfield County judge has sentenced Shane Allen Wheat to spend the rest of his life in prison without parole.
Wheat was convicted in March of dealing meth and other charges.
The Dalton man has six prior convictions between 2003 and 2015, including meth trafficking in both Murray and Gwinnett Counties and possession convictions in Whitfield and Murray.
Courts sent him to prison five times already, serving 10 of the last 15 years behind bars.
Prosecutors say he would usually re-offend within months of getting out.
DA Bert Poston writes “The District Attorney’s Office appreciates Judge Wilbanks serious consideration of the options available to him and his decision to impose the maximum possible sentence given the Defendant’s repeated failure to take advantage of opportunities to change his life.”
“It was particularly important to the safety and security of the community given the pattern of crimes and Wheat’s possession of two firearms in connection with his drug distribution business. ”
