Responders got on the scene around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Josiah Madrigal said he was helping his brother Jordan Madrigal do a more dangerous, technical climb when it happened.

Officials said Jordan fell around 30 feet and landed on his back.

“He, he was knocked out. I mean, I didn’t know what to think. I lowered him down and as soon as he hit the floor he kind of just, the breath just kind of slowly started to come back and I was like thank you Lord,” Josiah Madrigal said.

Multiple agencies responded, including the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Cave, Cliff Rescue Team, and a Lookout Mountain Police Officer who just happened to be in the area when the call came in.

“Having somebody right in the area, right when the call comes in is, is pretty lucky. That usually doesn’t happen especially in an area like this, but we were able to extricate him within 45 minutes,” Chief Park Ranger Todd Roeder said.

Roeder said Jordan was alert and conscious when he was taken to the hospital.

He said he suffered lumbar injuries, an ankle injury, and a wrist injury.

His brother said Jordan climbs often and is a Tri-Community firefighter.
