CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A 42 million dollar school building project was passed by the Hamilton County Commission Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, a resolution to build a press box for less than $2,000 died for lack of a second.
Commissioners unanimously passed the resolution accepting the bid of Tri-Con, Incorporated to build East Hamilton Middle School. The $42 million contract passed.
But another resolution for much less money came with a dire warning.
Commissioner Chester Bankston proposed spending about $1,900 to replace the press box at Ooltewah High.
He says it is rotting and unstable.
But when no one else seconded his motion, Bankston said it may come back to haunt them.
“I know it’s unsafe, I’ve been in construction for forty-five years. My conscious is clear, so if somebody gets hurt up there, or God forbid if somebody gets killed because it’s unsafe, I hope y’all can live with it.”
Commissioners told Bankston he needs to submit the request through the regular budget process. And Commissioner Bankston tells us that will be his next step.
