CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – An Internal Affairs investigation has led to the firing of a Chattanooga Police Officer.
Neighborhood Policing Officer Benjamin Dessalines was charged with Kidnapping and Sexual Battery in November.
The alleged victim filed a complaint with Chattanooga’s Special Victims Unit, which was turned over to Hamilton County to investigate since it involved an officer.
That investigation is still ongoing.
But the internal affairs report is complete.
The investigators found Dessalines guilty of Insubordination, Cooperation during Internal Investigation, Untruthfulness, Improper Procedure and Criminal Offenses.
He was officially fired on Thursday.
But the city will also request decertification from the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T) Commission which would keep him from getting another police job in the state.
