CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Hamilton County Commission voted to reject a special permit for a proposed wastewater treatment plant in the Ooltewah area.
The plant would have been built at 7800 Mahan Gap Road.
But a citizens group from the area have been fighting it.
The final vote on Wednesday was 6-3.
Now the Hamilton County Water Wastewater Treatment Authority (WWTA) will reconsider options to meet the growth in that part of the county.
“While we’re disappointed by today’s vote, we know that we must continue to find ways to meet the future needs of Hamilton County,” said WWTA Executive Director Mark Harrison.
“The last thing any of us want is to stall economic development or find ourselves in a moratorium that will effectively stop the healthy economy we’ve worked so hard to accomplish.”
Their board decided against spending $16-$21 Million to move the plant to another location.
