Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Lawmakers are reacting to the passing of a longtime Hamilton County elected official.
Bill Bennett died on Friday. He was 82-years-old.
Bennett entered public service in 1980, serving as a Hamilton County Commissioner and Assessor of Property for several years.
Congressman Chuck Fleschmann is remembering Bennett as a tireless public servant, someone who embodied the best of East Tennessee and having a legacy intertwined with the success of Hamilton County.
Senator Lamar Alexander believed Bennett was everyone’s friend, saying, “Voters knew how much he loved Hamilton County because they kept electing him.”
Both lawmakers send their condolences to Bennett’s family.
