CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport says that they are the first U.S. airfield to run 100% on solar power.
The Chattanooga Airport is the first US airfield to run 100 percent on Solar Power.
They began in 2010, working on these sustainability efforts.
The first phase opened in 2011.
They are moving into Phase 3 and by the end, they will have 7,490 panels.
This will provide the airport with 2.8 mega watts of energy, but to the consumer this is important because it’s keeping the fees down.
Terry Hart says, “we knew that we wanted to give back to the community in the interest of being sustainable.”
The FAA helped with grants to make this project a reality.
Hart says its “a great program for us obviously from a revenue perspective [and] it’s worked out well for our customers so we think that it is a win-win for everybody.
