If you have a Christmas tree, it needs lights, and smart lights can really help it stand out.

Smart lights are very beneficial – especially this time of year.

They can really come in handy with your holiday decorating.

“For example, if you have a Christmas tree, you can say, ‘Alexa, turn the Christmas tree off,’ or ‘Alexa, turn the outside lights off,’ which is a huge addition to many families, and it makes it a lot easier to automate that system,” said Nathan Roach, Best Buy.

Roach says you can control your lighting from your smartphone, or with voice assistants like Google Home or Amazon Echo.

“The cool thing with smart lights is, all you need to invest in is one of the smart hubs, or essentially smart plugs,” he said. “Once you have that, you can control everything from your phone. Just one of the added advantages is tying it in to the voice assistants that are available, and really, you’re able to take that technology to the next level.”

You can control your lights both inside and outside, even when you’re not home. It all runs on WiFi.

“Essentially, you can change colors, you can dim the lights, you can take them up or down, or you can just put them on a standard schedule to where they’ll turn on and off at certain times, and it makes it completely easy and automated, and you don’t even have to think about it,” Roach said.

Smart lights work great if you want a musical light show display at your home.

No matter how many you use, Roach says the lights save both energy and money.

“The idea behind it is, is that you don’t have your lights running 24/7,” Roach said. “You can obviously turn them off when you want, but when you put them on a schedule, you know when your lights are running, you don’t have wasted energy from lights running all night long.”

Roach says almost all of the smart lights Best Buy has are on sale for the rest of the holiday season.
