CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Many thought the practice of allowing a $100,000 a year “discretionary” fund for each Hamilton county commissioner was gone forever….but the item was on this morning’s agenda again.
East Ridge Commissioner Tim Boyd introduced a resolution this morning to reinstate the so-called discretionary fund, which led to a lengthy debate over where the money would come from.
Some commissioners, like Greg Martin, said they would not support that idea.
Mayor Jim Coppinger had been against the idea for years, before getting the practice stopped in 2016.
Boyd says the money helps the community.
“I’m on the ground everyday close to them as the rest of the commissioners are…boots on the ground..we know better than anybody in the county what our constituents need and asking for.”
After the debate…Boyd’s resolution failed to receive a majority, IN A 4 to 4 vote .
