Former Sequatchie County High School Principal asks for an appeal
SEQUATCHIE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Former Sequatchie County High School Principal Tommy Layne wants his job back, and that’s what many people want for him.
He spoke at the Sequatchie County Board of Education meeting Monday night asking for an appeal from his transfer.
A large crowd came to the meeting, many of who were there to show support for Layne.
The longtime educator and principal was recently transferred from his position to a teaching job at an elementary school.
Layne said he’s not sure why exactly he was transferred.
He said he had already planned to retire in June, and wants to finish out his 50th year as an educator by serving as Principal.
“I am what I am. I’m just who I am. I’ve treated people this way all my life. I pat everybody, I hug everybody. I’m a people person, and I love my kids,” Layne said.
A petition was started in efforts for Layne to be reassigned back.
The Director of Schools and School Board declined to make a comment on the situation.
