Police chase ends in crash on I 75 in Dalton

As we previously reported, the case started with a shoplifting in Cleveland, where two suspects threatened store employees.

The chase involved Hamilton County, Catoosa County, Whitfield County and Georgia troopers.

Eventually the troopers performed a pit maneuver and stopped the vehicle.

The male driver surrendered, but the female fled the scene again in the vehicle.

Then Whitfield deputies used another pit maneuver to stop her.

The GBI says the woman exited the vehicle with two handguns.

Multiple officers opened fire on her.

Both the male and female were taken to the hospital.

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – A major crash on I 75 in Dalton seems to have begun with criminal activity in Cleveland.

Cleveland Police say Kohl’s security tried to stop a couple they suspected of shoplifting.

They say when the loss prevention officers confronted the couple, the woman maced them and the man pulled a gun.

The couple then fled in a vehicle.

Police chased them down I 75 into Hamilton County, then across the state line into Catoosa and Whitfield County.

Whitfield County confirms the chase ended in a wreck at the main Dalton exit at Highway 52.

“Whitfield County Deputies were involved in a vehicle pursuit on I75 (along with other law enforcement agencies) that resulted in a crash. As a result of the incident GBI was called in to assist.”

GDOT originally reported that the vehicle was on fire.

And now the Georgia Bureau of Investigation says they are responding to an officer involved shooting in Dalton, involving multiple police agencies.
