HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) — Family and friends are mourning the loss of a hit and run victim.

At Abba’s House, church members and pastors are remembering Donald Rackley. He was an active member of his church.

“He had a great love for the lord. First and foremost and also an incredible love for his family,”said Ken Hartley, associate pastor at Abba’s House.

Chattanooga Police say Rackely, 62, was hit and killed by a car Monday morning on Norcross Road. They are still looking for the driver.

“This was a very needless tragedy, something that could never have been anticipated. And it has struck this family, it has struck our church and I think it has struck the community too,” Hartley said.

Hartley will remember Rackley’s sense of humor.

“Very witty. Always making jokes. Some of them very dumb, corny jokes. But made you laugh nonetheless. Those are the things I will miss,” Hartley said.

Not only was Rackley apart of his church, he was also involved in the magic community.

“We were both members of the Chattanooga Magic Club. I am an illusionist, which is a stage thing, but his specialty was mentalism. So he did a lot of the mind reading and predictions and things like that. He was very, very good at it,” Hartley said.

Rackley’s family needs help with funeral expenses and Hartley is hoping people step up to help.

“We’re in a tremendous community. Chattanooga is a wonderful loving community. We are hopeful and confident that they are going to wrap their arms around this family,” Hartley said.
