CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – After two water main breaks on Hixson Pike, Tennessee American Water has decided to completely replace the 600-foot pipe and expects the repairs to take at least three weeks.
On Thursday, crews worked to repair the southbound side of Hixson Pike and Lupton Drive. Drivers going that way have to take a detour.
The northbound side of Hixson Pike is open to one lane of traffic.
On Wednesday, there were two water main breaks, flooding the street.
During that time residents were without water, but it has since been restored.
“We’ve never had these kinds of problems, but I think the pipes are getting older too. But they have been really good about working on it fast to get it back on,” said Sylvia Smith, a resident.
Officials expect the two southbound lanes to remain closed until the project is finished.
