When they arrived, they say that they received information about a large fight where a male displayed a firearm.

Police say based on the information received, Chattanooga Police decided in the interest of safety, they needed to evacuate the mall .

This is when police began searching the mall. After reviewing mall surveillance video from Hamilton Place’s “recently upgraded surveillance video” they say they were quickly able to confirm the fight and a suspect brandishing a firearm

Witnesses told police that several people shouted “Gun!, He has a Gun!” which escalated into panic. This is believed to have caused “a mass movement of patrons out of the immediate area,” according to police.

Police say at least one juvenile was injured and transported to a local hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries received after falling to the ground.

Police confirm that they were able to located a firearm in the parking lot outside the Sears entrance and were able to connect it to the incident inside the mall.

Police say they reviewed video footage, conducted interviews with witnesses, and completed a sweep of the mall. This led them to the determination that there is no physical evidence at this time which has indicated that a firearm was discharged during the incident.

The Violent Crimes Bureau are still investigating the incident and following up on all actionable leads.
