Benjamin Brewer found guilty of all charges in 2015 I 75 crash
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Truck driver Benjamin Brewer was convicted on Thursday for causing the deadly Ooltewah I-75 crash two and a half years ago.
Six people died in the multi car wreck that was caused when Brewer ran into eight different vehicles, causing explosions and fire.
Prosecutors say he was high on meth when it happened.
The jury convicted Brewer on 12 different charges, including six counts of Vehicular Homicide by Intoxication.
Traffic investigator Joe Warren says he is glad for all the people who worked that wreck that the jury didn’t fall for the defense arguments.
Hamilton County District Attorney Neal Pinkston says the jury, who was from Nashville, got it right. He says he appreciates their hard work and thinks this will being some closure to the families of the victims.
“I’m happy for the families, the legal side of it, after two and a half years is over with, but as you can imagine it was such an enormous loss of life. It is still a very sad day,” Pinkston said.
The victims of the crash were Brian Gallaher, 37, Tiffany Watts, 31, Kelsie Garrigues 11, Savannah Garrigues, 9, Sandra Anderson, 50, and Jason Ramos, 36.
Brewer faces up to 72 year in prison when he will be sentenced in March.
