MARION COUNTY, Tennessee (WDEF) – A man’s body has been found after driving into the Tennessee River during a pursuit Monday night.
Hamilton County Police say the driver of the vehicle jumped out while the vehicle was still in motion, and ran down a boat ramp, and into the waterfront fleeing from law enforcement.
Officers began a search for the fleeing driver shortly after the vehicle entered the river.
On Friday, a body was found in the Tennessee River near the area he was last seen in Marion County.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says the body belongs to 28-year-old Michael Shane Huffman of Dunlap, Tennessee.
Investigators say Huffman and two women were in the car when it went into the river.
The two women were taken to the hospital and charged with evading arrest.
Members of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Hamilton County Tactics and Rescue Services (STARS) assisted in the recovery of the body.
The body of Michael Shane Huffman has been sent to the Middle Tennessee Regional Forensic Center for examination.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. No other information is available for release at this time.
