Ringgold Water utility warns customers of water violation
RINGGOLD, Georgia (WDEF) – The Ringgold water company has sent a letter to customers explaining how they violated a drinking water standard.
In four consecutive quarters, the utility exceeded the maximum contaminant levels for disinfection byproducts (DBP’s).
The haloacedic levels at a home on Hacket Street averaged .063 mg/L while the maximum allowable is .060.
The DBP’S are caused when their disefectants come in contact with organic and inorganic material in the water.
They say that some people ingesting HAA5 over the standard for several years have a higher risk of cancer.
The utility says this is not a water emergency.
There is NOT a boil warming or a need to find another water source.
The utility says they are flushing the lines more often and changing how the disinfect the water.
They expect to correct the problem in the next six months.
