CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Police Department’s New Cadet class has a new outlook on diversity in the community that they hope to serve in the future.
This afternoon the 2017 class shared their research about the different groups represented in the area.
The group is wrapping to their presentation in their research on the African American community, but that was just one of the groups that the class was tasked to learn more about.
This 2017 class in itself is a very diverse group of potential new officers.
The Cadets have spent over 50 hours, which is the equivalent of an one college course, interviewing community members and leaders.
They came back with an unfiltered and comprehensive look at how these different groups look at the department and what they could to to better serve the area.
News 12 spoke with Chief Roddy about how having this knowledge makes them better leaders in the community.
Tonight at 11 we’ll hear what these cadets took away from the experience.
