A new upscale, multi-million dollar resort is planned on Lookout Mountain.
Millions of dollars in additional tax revenue and thousands of jobs are expected to be created.
Developers reveal plans for a new Lookout Mountain Canyon Ridge Resort in Walker County.
They hope to open Fall of 2019.
Plans show about two-hundred hotel rooms, a conference center and an infinity pool.
The existing golf course will be renovated.
Available for purchase are empty lots to build private homes.
Scenic Land Development President Duane Horton says, “it’s the only mountain top location that’s within 30 minutes of three interstate systems within two hours of four major markets and submarkets as well. Surrounded by 14 million people; 28 fortune 500 companies.”
The eastern side of Lookout Mountain, overlooking McClemore Cove, is its new home.
To start, phase one costs $106,000,000 to build.
Walker County Commissioner Shannon Whitfield tells us, “that’s one of the very unique things about this project, is the county did not have to make any financial investment to get them interested to come here to Walker County.”
Developers say they’ve put together plans for fire and emergency response stations, clubhouse design and lot and membership sales.
Lots for homes start at $55,000.
Whitfield says the additional tax revenues will be used for public parks and facilities, water and sewer upkeep.
“We have a lot of roads that need to be repaved. We have a lot of building infrastructure that we need to be working on.”
Next year, Walker County will pursue a hotel-motel tax.
If passed, the tax would implement county-wide.
Money from that would go toward tourism, convention, and trade shows.
