They say 25 year old Joshua Christian Grant from Altoona entered the South End Market around 4:45 AM, armed with a hammer.

He smashed the cooker door and made off with a carton of beer.

Police caught up with him traveling at a high rate of speed near 6th Street.

He then ran off the road on Gault Avenue, and hit a light in front of the fire station.

He shot across the parking lot, hit a curb and went airborne.

The car flew into the side of the old Quinn building.

Grant was pronounced dead at the scene.
