CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.(WDEF)- Walker County has a brand new Sheriff’s Station, to help fight crime and keep local residents safe.
Officials held the ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon at the new location in Rossville.
Local resident Jim Hill says he’s more than happy to welcome the Walker County Sheriff Office’s brand new Satellite Station located on Hannah Way in Rossville Georgia.
“It is good to know that we now have a location for our officers on this end of the county to come and do their work, you know, to be a presence in the community.”
“This office is going to be a great resource for the north end of walker county, to include Chattanooga Valley, Lookout Mountain, Fairview, South Rossville.”
Sheriff Steve Wilson says he started working on the idea of bringing a new station to Walker County back in 2007, with the county commissioner.
And now that it’s open, residents like Hill say it’s just what their community needed.
“It gives the officers a place where they can come where the residence can turn to when they need to speak to them. Instead of driving all the way down to Lafayette, they can come right here to Rossville.”
“When the citizens and the government work together, we can see change for the positive.”
Sheriff Wilson says the next goal is to have as many deputies as they can on patrol in that location.
