CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On Wednesday, Ruby Falls announced plans for a multi-phased expansion that will begin in January 2017.
There will be six phases in the expansion project – the first two will be completed in 2018.
The first two phases will include updates to parking, ticketing, retail space, restrooms, and office space as well as a new lobby. There will also be a new pedestrian mall.
The expansion project will cost $20 million and last into the 2020s, according to Ruby Falls officials. Ruby Falls will celebrate 100 years in 2028.
“We are so proud to expand and modernize our attraction and become an exciting destination, not only for our out-of-town visitors, but for our Lookout Mountain residents and Chattanoogans as well. While our waterfall and history cannot change, Ruby Falls is growing as a world-class facility that will bridge our heritage into its second century. One primary goal of this investment is to provide an efficient and comfortable place where guests can enjoy relaxing and hanging out for longer periods of time,” says Ruby Falls President Hugh Morrow.
Ruby Falls is known for being home to America’s deepest commercial cave and the largest underground waterfall.
