Immigrants without legal status sue the Georgia University System

FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) – Illegal immigrants are suing the University System of Georgia for access to state colleges.

As it stands right now, undocumented immigrants are not allowed to go to any of the state’s top schools no matter how good their grades are or how much money they’re willing to pay and they say that’s not fair.

“I’ve lived in Georgia since I was really small,” said Diana Umana.

She spoke to CBS46 over the phone from Massachusetts where she’s going to college.

She graduated with honors from high school in Georgia but the University System of Georgia barred her from going to school in the peach state.

“It was pretty devastating for me,” she said.
