DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – Whitfield County Emergency Management is using the 5th anniversary of the April 27th tornadoes to encourage the public to be prepared for the next big storm.
They are holding a #Prepareathon on Wednesday from 10 AM to 3 PM.
During those hours, they want people to sign up for Code Red weather alerts.
Just call 706-259-3730 to opt in for the warning system that sends emergency alerts to your landline, cell phone or text messages.
“When severe weather threatens, mere minutes can make a difference between life and death. But you can’t take action if you’re not getting emergency notifications. CALL US at 706-259-3730 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wed., April 27 during our #PrepareAthon! Telethon to sign up for Code Red or update your information.”
Remember, on April 27th, 2011, earlier storms knocked out power to the area, so many people missed the weather warnings from TV and radio.
Our Alexandria Adams spent the morning with Whitfield County EMA talking about emergency preps on preparathon day.
