Flooding in the Mountains of North Carolina & North Georgia

Murphy, NC (WDEF) – Flood warnings continue through the area on Wednesday.

Most rivers and major streams are predicted to crest at or slightly above flood stage, which will create minor flooding.

The worst flooding so far has been in the mountains, and in McMinn County.

The Sheriff’s department in Cherokee County reports that at least one family was flooded from their home near the Hiwassee River this morning.

Ellijay, Ga (WDEF) – Schools were cancelled in Fannin & Gilmer counties because of flooding in the north Georgia mountains on Wednesday morning.

One home was damaged by a rock slide.

McMinn County, TN (WDEF) School was also cancelled on Wednesday in McMinn County because of flooding conditions in the morning.
