Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Santa Clause is trading in his Christmas hat for a Sailor’s hat, all thanks to the popular Lighted Boat Parade on the Tennessee River.

Thousands of locals filled Ross’s Landing last night to watch more than 30 boats float by covered, from top to bottom, in lights and other decorations.

It’s a free event that’s become a family tradition for many locals, as some say it brings just the right amount of Christmas spirit to downtown Chattanooga.

"We like coming down here as a family," said Kim Burton, who’s been coming every year for more than two decades, "Enjoying the fireworks, and having cookies and hot chocolate and stuff and just kicking off the Christmas season."

The weather was nice after the parade, so plenty of spectators stopped by Ice on the Landing for a little ice skating fun.
