Officials say they get an influx of pets coming in after the holidays.
They say many have gotten scared of the loud noises from fireworks and run away.
Officials hope you’ll take extra precautions to keep your furry friend safe and at home.
Executive Director Bob Citrullo says, "You want to make sure that the animals are in your house or contained properly so they don’t get out."
He also says, "Because they have become scared from the noises, an actually get out of their yard, jump fences. They go to great lengths to get away to hide because they’re afraid of the loud noises."
Officials say that if your pet gets extremely scared, you might want to get a prescription from a vet for a sedative.
Also, make sure you have proper id on them; either with tags or micro chips, just in case they get lost.
