Chattanooga-(WDEF) Since Saturday is the Mocs final home game of the year, they’ll honor their seniors, including one of the best to ever wear a Mocs jersey in defensive end Davis Tull.
He has 9.5 sacks this season, and if he collects half-a-sack against Wofford, he’ll become the SoCon’s all time sacks leader.
Not bad for a walk-on.
Said quarterback Jacob Huesman,"He’s kind of a one of a kind specimen."
But specimen wasn’t a word used to describe Davis Tull when he arrived at Chattanooga.
"Being a walk-on. Having more people telling me I couldn’t than I could. Kind of struggled to gain that confidence like you said. At the beginning, there were a lot of low points. My freshman year was a rough year. I don’t think you ever lose that mentality. That goes for anybody that’s a walk-on in any program. You always play with that chip on your shoulder, and you want to prove people wrong and stuff. That definitely serves as motivation."
Tull is the two-time defending SoCon defensive player of the year.
Said Jacob Huesman,"He has got such a variety of moves. He’s not just a bull rush guy. He can do it. But just when you are expecting the bull rush, he’ll go right around you with a speed move."
Tull’s strength and quickness are SEC quality.
Said Tull,"I remember last year we played Alabama. Just to answer your question. I think one of their offensive lineman said that if you played in the SEC, you’d be the second best rusher in the SEC, and that was the year (Jadeveon) Clowney was in the league."
Said head coach Russ Huesman,"It’s hard to put into words what he has done for us. I don’t know how you say a defensive end can be such a factor in winning and losing football games. It doesn’t happen very often, but he does."
Tull admits he’ll be jacked up for senior day.
"There’s going to be a lot of family there. Be emotional at the beginning of the game. Hopefully I will calm down once the game starts, and we can play football again."
