It happened early Thursday morning in the East Lake area.
Shortly before 4 A.M., police were called to the 2100 block of Foust Street to investigate a report of shots being fired.
When officers arrived, they found a deceased gunshot victim on the front porch of a vacant home. Officers also found the front wall of the home riddled with bullet holes.
Both Investigators and nearby neighbors say there’s a good chance the shooting was gang related.
"It’s just crazy. I know god is not pleased. I know that much," said one neighbor who was leaving the scene and did not want to be identified.
"You can not get up in the morning without somebody getting killed or hurt and you know them," said another neighbor who also didn’t want to be identified for fear of retaliation. She then elaborated on her frustration surrounding the shooting.
"It’s just sad to these young me getting killed like this. He was my grandson’s cousin."
Hours after this investigation began, WDEF caught up with new Chattanooga police chief Fred Fletcher at a public event. Since staring his new job, Chief Fletcher has been bombarded with a rash of cases involving gun violence.
"When someone’s son or father or brother gets killed, it’s important to us. People are not statistics. They’re individuals that have value which is why I made it to the crime scene this morning to be out there and to be able to visit with the families and people on the street. I want to make sure that we get every thing we can to help that area be safe."
Investigators say they are looking for a silver colored Cadillac that may have been used during the shooting.
Police have identified the victim as Dominic Wright.
