Dixie Medical Update
Hello,
02/22/08, We picked up Dixie from the animal hospital today at 4:00 pm. The Vet had good news for us. Dixie's toxins have gone way down. still not to normal levels, but surely to a better level for her health. When Dixie was brought in through the back door of the exam room and she saw us for the first time in 3 days, she whined !! she howled!! and kiss's and licks of joy. I was so very happy to have my precious pup back in my arms. Then the vet gave us the news and basically said, "if her levels can remain low and not go back up? we will get about 2 more years of life from her". In 2 weeks, we return to the vet and have the levels tested again to see if they stayed low or gained ground again. She will be on a prescription diet always, and she has new meds that she will take now. If any body would like to E-Mail us? SteveMBaumgartner@gmail.com
Thank you for your support and kind thoughts.
I have a beagle named Dixie
I have a beagle named Dixie that is just turning 7 yrs. She has been having kidney problems for the last 2 years now. She is currently at the Veterinary Hospital being treated for her kidneys failing to function. I don't think I will have too much time left with her. It's sad that a dog that is barely 7 yrs old will probably never see 8. Out of all the dogs I have had in my 47 years, the Beagle, "Dixie" has been my true love. She is just as if she were my own child.
She sleeps with me every night. follows me every where. chases squirrels around the yard. I just can't imagine what life would be without her. Yet, her days are numbered. I know that my heart will break very bad when I lose her. But I just wanted to say, that the breed is the most lovable and affectionate of any dog I ever had. and I would get another beagle in a N.Y. minute if I lose my Dixie. But I would rather keep my Dixie pup for now...as long as the man upstairs let's her. Thanks!

Dixie, the beagle
Dear Steve,
I loved reading your story about Dixie. I share your love for this dog. There is nothing like them and they are truly like a child. I hope you have many, many more happy days with your dog. They are without a doubt the best companion anyone could want if they love having a dog of this sweet nature.
Just 2 years ago I lost a beloved beagle named Bailey. I believe he was kidnapped while I was not at home. I have grieved more over this dog more than anyone could imagine. I try to tell myself it was just a dog, but in personality he was a lot like Uno. He had manners, which is something that usually has to be taught, and I did not have to do that. He actually came to me as a stray, 3 years after I had lost another beagle to an accident, so when he showed up it was a Godsend. I had him for 3 years. He was probably a year old when he came to my farm house and just made himself at home. I still miss this dog and always will.
I hope you have many more years with Dixie. These are very special animal companions and obviously by the popularity of Uno millions of people think so too.
Love,
Sandra
