A former New York City police officer is now the teacher of the year.
President Obama will name Anthony Mullen the 2009 National Teacher of the Year at a White House ceremony this afternoon.
Mullen has spent much of his life in public service.
First, as a cop for 20 years.
And now, as a special education teacher for the past seven years.
Mullen teaches at an alternative high school in Greenwich, Connecticut.
His students have praised him for his sense of humor and support, helping them meet their goals.
