Pop A Wheelie, Go To Jail
Pop a wheelie, pay a fine or go to jail. That's the idea behind legislation making its way through the Tennessee House. It would amend the reckless driving law to include anyone operating a motorcycle with the front tire raised off the ground.
The bill, sponsored by Representative Vince Dean of East Ridge, would make popping a wheelie a Class "B" misdemeanor, punishable by up to six-months in jail and a $500 fine.
Local bikers seemed mixed about the proposal. Mike Caputo says "the police department has a lot to do already and I don't know that they want to be out there enforcing a new law like that, to me its just crazy." Bob Bennett says "I'm not against it because you have no control, I mean you've got a back tire that's fixed so you know if something comes up."
The bill goes before the House Transportation Committee Tuesday.
