Chattanooga City Council votes to turn down the volume on vehicle noise.
The problem...trucks using engine compression braking systems and vehicles with broken mufflers.
They make a loud noise that bother people in areas like Signal Mountain and St. Elmo.
Council members unanimously approved an ordinance to make vehicle noise over 90 decibels illegal.
Councilman Manny Rico says, "The enforcement of that is another problem. You almost have to be alongside of them with the meter to see if they're abusing it so it's going to be hard to enforce."
The ordinance also directs the city engineer to investigate areas with excessive vehicle noise and put up proper warning signs.
Violators would be fined $50.
The new rule starts in two weeks.
