While the Credit debate rages on in Washington, your family budget is about to take some hits this week.

First, the new power rate hikes go into affect beginning on Wednesday.

Home customers will pay 20% more in October.

That should add about 16-to 20 dollars a month to most customers.

And your water bill is also going up on Wednesday.

But not nearly as much.

The range varies from about 79 cents in the city to well over a dollar on the mountains.

Here is how the water company breaks it down:

For the average customer using 4,300 gallons of water a month, rates will change as follows for the different tariff groups:

Chattanooga: Increase of 73 cents, raising the monthly bill from $16.54 to $17.27.

Lookout Mountain: Increase of 94 cents, raising the average monthly bill from

$21.47 to $22.41.

Lakeview: Increase of 83 cents, raising the average monthly bill from $19.02 to

$19.85.

Lone Oak: Increase of $1.90, raising the average monthly bill from $43.51 to $45.41.

Suck Creek: Increase of $1.54, raising the average monthly bill from $35.19 to $36.73.
