A couple of golfers are taking what same may see as a dream vacation--a 50 round 50 state tour of the U-S. But these players are teeing off to raise money and awareness for some of the world's most deadly diseases.
Dick Allgire has the story.
BILL EVANS IS A BUSINESSMAN FROM ATLANTA. CRAIG FORNEY IS A GOLF PRO, ALSO FROM ATLANTA. THE TWO ARE JUST COMPLETING A MARATHON CROSS COUNTRY GOLF TOUR. 50 COURSES IN 50 DAYS IN ALL 50 STATES. THEY SAY IT HAS NOT BEEN EASY.
"First of all try to talk to your boss to get 50 days off in a row to do this. Secondly, the wear and tear mentally that we have with the travel.
You're in a new course every day and so the golf becomes secondary it's really our cause and the people we meet along the way that's why we're doing it."
THEY'RE DOING IT TO RAISE AWARENESS OF BREAST CANCER, PROSTATE CANCER AND MELANOMA. THEY WEAR WRIST BANDS THAT READ SAY IT, FIGHT IT, CURE IT.
A CAMERA CREW IS MAKING A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THEM. THEY SAY MEETING FOLKS INVOLVED IN FIGHTING CANCER HAS BEEN THE BEST PART.
"The people we've met along the way we've played golf with cancer survivors. We've played with researchers.
We've met with folks that are not going to survive cancer those are the folks that get you up to play golf."
TODAY WAS THE FINAL ROUND, COMPLETING THE GOAL OF GOLFING IN 50 STATES.
