Work begins in Rossville to improve the city's streetscape.
After 8 years of planning, city and county leaders agreed to redesign every corner downtown. Funding for the $1.7 million dollar facelift comes from grants... and includes areas for walking, new benches, and other beautification projects. Mayor Johnny Baker says "we want to make it when you come into Rossville, something more than just 'what is this somewhat blighted area here and by the way what part of Georgia are we in. It's to say wow, we've come into Georgia!"
Mayor Baker says the area around the Iowa monument will be completely overhauled, so visitors can get out of their vehicles and look at the memorial.
He hopes the entire beautification project will attract more business downtown.
Work should be completed in October.
