Erlanger urges the community to know the signs of a stroke.
The medical center, which is the trauma center for the tri-state area, hosted Stop Stroke Saturday at its Women's East campus.

Statistics show every 45 seconds someone in the country suffers a stroke. The free community event included information booths offering tips on health and exercise. Doctors explained how to avoid having a stroke and how changing your lifestyle can reduce your risk. They say know your family history and, if you're a smoker, quit.
Pat Joly, Stroke Coordinator, "Watch your risk factors, if you have diabetes keep your blood sugar as normal as possible, if you have hypertension get that treated, some of the things you can't control is more males than females have strokes."
People ages 40 to 65 are most at risk, but anyone can have a stroke.
