This week on the scene...take four local guys in matching jackets, with influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Bill Monroe, sprinkle in two guitars and a mandolin, and garnish with a tuba. Well that's a recipe for some of Chattanooga's most original artists "Seersucker " and a one of a kind sound known as tubagrass. One of the scenic city's newest acts Seersucker brings a combination of old time bluegrass with some biting contemporary political humor. Which no where more evident than in their original song " The Ballad oF Billy Long " Guitar palyer Doug Wheelock said " music is a creative process but sometimes a story puts itself out there for you. So reality is better than fiction...sometimes" And Seersucker along singer song writers Nashville's Angel Snow and Knoxville's own Brandy Robinson will be performing at Picnicing and Picking at the River view Park band shell this Saturday and hopefully raise some money for a good cause. " It'll go straight to the Joe Grubbs memorial fund which is to benefit Hamilton County Students through music one student at a time. We've actually just acquired a few instruments that we're going to start giving out next year. So we're real excited about that"-David Scwind. The memorial fund was founded after the death of Chattanooga musician Joe Grubbs the same foundation that brings The Between the Bridges festival to Chattanooga. Picncing and Picking will kick off the festival season in the scenic city Saturday from 1 to 6 pm at River view park. You've got the pickin part down for this weekend but when it comes to picnicing always defer to the experts. And the good folks at Chattanooga's Green Life Grocery are here to help you put together the perfect spring time picnic basket. We caught with store manger Nora Ketren who was kind enough to walk us through and explain some the finer products that Green life has to offer for any weekend outing. " We're really dedicated to being part of the local community and highlighting organic all natural locally produced foods and products" Well there you have it Chattanooga spring has arrived and it's time to get out and enjoy some great music for a great cause. So grab your blanket and your cooler and enjoy the weather. For WDEF news twelve's Scenic City Scene I'm Tobias Parrish>
