Patten Towers residents get check-up on their health thanks to the help of some area students.

Students from Southern Adventist University assessed residents basic needs from blood pressures to height, weight and blood sugar.

Nearly half of the Patten Towers community took advantage of the services.

Students from different on-campus organizations have worked throughout the year with residents but came together today for the expo.

Organizers say many of the residents have no insurance or primary doctor.

Organizer John Miller says,"A lot of these people struggle with substance abuse, have mental problems or physical disabilties. So we saw the need and took it upon ourselves to try to help that."

With the information students gathered from residents today, volunteer physicians and nurses will follow-up to provide health care on a semiannnual basis.
